L'area giochi per bambini BACOGIGI, disponibile esclusivamente presso Unicoop Firenze, è progettata come una mela rossa con una bizzarra decorazione a forma di bruco verde e presenta al suo interno tavoli e sgabelli rossi.

Project Brief

Baco Gigi is a play area equipped with traditional games, created to entertain children and increase foot traffic in Unicoop shopping centers. “Baco Gigi AR” is the technological evolution of the project, born as a thesis within the Interior Design program at the Istituto Europeo di Design in Florence. It included the physical construction of the structure, the selection of hardware, and the development of the software component. Children can color animal drawings, which are scanned through the “caterpillar’s” head and then come to life in 3D with augmented reality inside the projection room.

Partners and collaborations:

    Drawing Acquisition Application

The first step of the game requires children to color a pre-set drawing provided as a base.

The game works so that once the child has colored the drawing, a camera connected to the PC scans it and recognizes it as a marker to activate augmented reality. The application guides the child through the process, prompting them to show the drawing so it can be correctly captured. Once recognized, the drawing becomes the starting point for the animation, transforming into a virtual object that comes to life in the projected space.

    Virtualization and Projection Application

After the drawing has been captured, the virtualization application comes into play, transforming the scanned drawing into an animated model that moves within a virtual space.

The scanned drawings are transferred via local network to the virtualization application, where they are transformed into animated virtual objects that interact with the surrounding environment. The virtual characters come to life and animate automatically. They are then placed in customized virtual environments branded with Unicoop Firenze and optimized for high-quality projection onto an indoor wall. The projection allows children to see their own drawings animated and interacting within a physical space, creating an immersive and engaging experience.

This augmented reality project is an example of how technology, creativity, and play can be combined to deliver innovative and engaging experiences. Esimple worked closely with Unicoop Firenze to create a solution that not only entertains but also stimulates children’s creativity, turning a simple drawing into a unique digital adventure.
